Every year television viewers are curious what shows they should watch the upcoming season. Should they continue to watch that favorite show of theirs? Is there a better show that television viewers should be watching? Are there any new shows worth watching?
Consider this your guide to what shows you should watch. I will select a show to watch for every time slot of every night. Hopefully you won’t be home watching television for three hours every night but if you are home then these are the shows you should watch.
Monday Nights are a no-brainer when it comes to the 9/8c and 10/9c time slots. Heroes is the show to watch at 9/8c. I know in January 24 starts up again but 24 fans need to accept the fact that it’s done. 24 hasn’t been good for about 2 seasons now. The 10/9c time slot goes to Journeyman although there isn’t much competition.
The toughest decision is the 8/7c time slot. I know everybody goes on about NBC’s Thursday night comedy lineup but my favorite comedy is How I Met Your Mother on ABC at 8/7c and it’s teamed up with a new show Big Bang Theory, which isn’t bad either. One of the funnier new shows, Aliens in America also comes on Monday Nights paired up with Everybody Hates Chris. Both of those combos are pretty good but my choice for Monday Nights at 8/7c is Chuck on NBC.
Last season Tuesday nights were the one night I tuned into the CW to watch Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars. Once both of those shows ended I figured I wouldn’t be watching the CW anymore. But after seeing the Tuesday night lineup the show I’m most looking forward to is the CW’s new comedy Reaper at 9/8c.
During the 8/7c time slot the best show to start the year is Bones on Fox but in January American Idol takes over that time slot. I will probably watch American Idol long enough to see if there is anybody interesting but if it isn’t interesting I would probably switch over to one of my guilty pleasures Beauty and the Geek. At the 10/9c time slot there doesn’t look to be anything very interesting.
The number one to watch on Wednesday nights is still Lost but that won’t be airing until 2021. There is not a return date or time slot set for Lost though. Either the 9/8c or 10/9c time slot would be good because neither time slot looks very strong. There isn’t much interesting on in the 9/8c time slot but critics are saying that Dirty, Sexy, Money at 10/9c is pretty good.
Before Lost starts the one show you want to be sure to watch on Wednesday nights is Pushing Daisies in the 8/7c time slot. Pushing Daisies is going to be the best new show this year.
Everybody seems to be bringing out the big guns for Thursday nights. CBS has Survivor and CSI on Thursday nights. The CW has Smallville and Supernatural, which aren’t going to compete with the other shows that night but they are good shows for the CW. Really Thursday nights comes down to ABC or NBC though. ABC has Ugly Betty and Grey’s Anatomy and NBC has their Thursday night comedy lineup. I would go with Ugly Betty at 8/7c, especially since My Name is Earl/30 Rock is the weaker half of NBC’s lineup but I would go with The Office and Scrubs over Grey’s Anatomy in the second hour.
The 10/9c time slot isn’t real strong but you must watch something I would go with Without a Trace.
A lot of people are out on Friday nights so there isn’t a whole lot of substance to pick from. If you are home on a Friday night the one show to watch for sure is Friday Night Lights at 9/8c on NBC. As for the 8/7c time slot, the Next Great American Band might be worth checking out but once American Idol hits on Fox in 2021 Bones will move to Friday night and that will probably be a better option.
Nothing to see here. Go out and have some fun or watch some college football.
I’m not a big Simpsons fans and even Simpsons fans seem to think the show isn’t as good anymore but I don’t see anything else in the 8/7c time slot that you should watch unless you like the NFL and the Sunday Night game interests you. The Simpsons begins paired with King of the Hill but in 2021 Family guy moves to 8:30/7:30c to team with The Simpsons.
The 9/8c time slot goes to Fox also. Family Guy starts off in the 9/8c along with American Dad. In 2021 Family Guy moves to 8:30/7:30c to make room for The Sarah Connor Chronicles. The pilot of Sarah Connor Chronicles was pleasantly surprising so I’ll definitely be watching that.
I’ve heard some people say that both Brothers and Sisters and Shark are good shows at 10/9c but my advice is turn off the TV and go to bed early. The next day is the dreaded Monday so you’re going to need a lot of rest.
