If you’re looking for some great sites to visit with your little one, look no further. My toddler and I have searched the web for the best sites. We have found game sites that are free, don’t require a sign-up (prompting for email), and are completely age approriate. The games and activites are geared for education and development of young children. The following paragraphs give a brief description of some of our favorites. Hope you like them.
Our favorite site is www.starfall.com. I’m sure many parents have heard of this site as many schools are incorporating it into the classroom. This site has a free section and a subscription section, which is $35 a year. I have not subscribed or felt a need to. The free activties on this site are abundant. Starfall focuses on phonics but is appropriate for all ages. My son and I have been on it since before he was 2 and he loves it. Since we started visiting Starfall my son now knows all his letters, uppercase and lower, and all of the letter sounds. The games and activites are fun and rewarding. A must visit website.
Another site we love is www.pbskids.org/lions. This is the ‘Between the Lions’ site from PBS Kids. These activites also focus on phonics and reading. The games are entertaining and plentiful. This site also has video clips and stories that will play automatically, so if you need to go answer the phone your baby will be entertained. One of the best games is a cleaning up toys game. The narrator asks to pick a specific toy to put away and then the details and instructions get more complex. Very rewarding site.
Fisher Price has a website, www.fisher-price.com that not only features products and toys but has a game and activity tab. These games teach a variety of skills such as matching, listening, and opposites. This site is a favorite of my sons because he loves to guess at the games. For instance they will show a big dog and a small dog and ask which dog is big. Also, all of the activities feature Fisher-Price characters. So cute!
Many children’s television programs have websites associated with them. Nick Jr. and Sprout are two popular networks that offer great games and activities,. I’m sure you’ve all heard the commerrcials prompting you to go online with your child. Well it is worth it. Both offfer a variety of games with your child’s favorite characters and it helps them learn as they play. Visit www.nickjr.com and www.sproutonline.com to find awesome games and some ideas for crafts and homemade games as well.
I hope that you will try these sites, if you haven’t already. It not only teaches your children but can create a little family time as well. Happy gaming!!
